Dhinkia set for JSW steel plant inauguration after 21-year struggle over project site

Following a grueling 21-year struggle over land acquisition and environmental concerns, the historic site at Dhinkia in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district has transitioned from a symbol of resistance into a major industrial milestone. JSW Steel has officially broken ground on its massive ₹1 trillion integrated greenfield steel plant, a project taking root on the very same 2,958-acre expanse where South Korean steel giant POSCO famously retreated in 2017 after a decade of severe local protests. Spearheaded by JSW Utkal Steel Ltd, the upcoming mega-complex boasts a planned 13.2 MTPA production capacity alongside a 900 MW captive power plant, a captive jetty, and modern logistics infrastructure. Promoted by JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, this highly anticipated inauguration marks a paradigm shift for the local economy, promising to accelerate the state’s transformation into the primary industrial corridor of Eastern India.
